I grew up with one of the “house jobs” being set the table. I can’t remember who had to set the table but in my mind, it was one of the better jobs. It had order and it looked good when you were done. As opposed to taking out the garbage which was smelling and required going outside any time of year and Minnesota can be cold for several months.
So I set the table. And when I was working with Harvey Mackay, #1 New York Times Bestselling author of Swim With the Sharks without Being Eaten Alive, and Hall of Fame Speaker, he used to say before we made a sales call that I needed to “set the table.” That meant making sure I was prepared and I knew who the person I was talking to was connected to and that they knew why he was calling etc. etc. It’s a great skill to be thoughtful and prepared before you make a sales call or attend an event. I work hard to build my expertise in this area as it always pays off because the conversation goes smoothly and I can quickly add value.
Fast forward to my own speaking and coaching business and I am setting the table for you to please join me at the inaugural RockPaperStar Networking Invitational and Speaker Showcase event in Minnesota. Here’s why:
Networking is a skill to work on and being in a room of quality people always leads to good new connections if you are in the right room.
Speaking is a skill to develop and/or to listen to speakers is inspiring. This event will have both and if you want to speak and get feedback you will from business professionals who can take your speaking to the next level.
It’s going to super FUN and there is a raffle and you can win prizes, coaching and even one person will win free video valued at $500.
Again, IRL, sometimes I set the table, sometimes I don’t but at this professional event, the table will be set for you to do your best networking and professional growth. (And if you don’t accomplish at least one quality connection, you can get your money back.)
And the always popular dog photo:
Brandy is watching me set the table for tonight’s dinner. Stay tuned for another photo when I’m done!
Have a great weekend.
