If you have been reading my newsletter for more than 2 issues, you know that I have a tendency to let a typo slip by and sometimes a run-on sentence or a thought that doesn’t make sense. I know you may find this annoying and I apologize. I have rushing tendencies too! I used to have a proofer! I found that sometimes I couldn’t wait to hit send or I pushed send without having my cheaters on. (Cheaters for those of you that don’t need them are those glasses that become imperative and yet despite knowing you need them you still think you can read something without putting on the magnifiers you now require.)
This past week I cleaned out my office and was hustling to get the extra paper into the recycling on Tuesday. I get determined that way, hence the rushing tendencies. I found a few piles of ideas, projects, and most importantly notes on connections I had met with and taken handwritten notes. If you’re reading this and I didn’t follow up with you, sorry for the delay. Your name has a little box by it and I will get to that pile. Or feel free to reach out and let me know what I can do for you to support your goals!
I’m not a piler. I’m not a hoarder. But I do hang on to ideas and people.
I’m a do-er.
I set timers and I like to play games.
The office clean out was ruthless aand I established I was done with materials and three ring binders I had in a digital version. I was keeping a great strengths training workshop and the handouts which were amazing. I have a folder of resources with a laminated card from years ago when I worked at Best Buy as an Executive Coach. I learned so much about change management concepts that I use on a daily basis. My insight was I am going to hang onto materials I actually use. Define your categories. Know your end goal. Keep the concepts that you want to practice.
When you are networking these same strategic and decisive frameworks work as you decide who you want “with you” on your journey to accomplish your goals.
What are you trying to accomplish and by when?
Who are five people in your network that you currently know that can assist you to reach your goals?
Who are two people you need to meet and who can introduce you or how can you find your way to meet them?
What is your process for outreach and follow-through?
Who are you currently supporting to reach their goals?
Keep culling and cleaning your network. Working on your network makes it better. Intention pays off. Use the phone to reconnect. Have coffee with people that are worthy of being in your inner circle. Define what that means. Pick at least one or two events and associations to experiment with building community. Work on your online skills at making new connections.
